Lt. Col. Rennie Cory Jr., who was killed one year ago on a mission to find missing servicemen in Vietnam, was remembered Sunday during a graveside ceremony.
Members of Rolling Thunder rode motorcycles to Fort Bragg’s Main Post Cemetery, where several read poems and prayed at Cory’s grave, said Tom Stanley, president of the group’s Fayetteville chapter.
Cory lived on Fort Bragg.
He was killed April 7, 2001, when a helicopter crashed into a mountainside in central Vietnam. Cory was 43 and served as the commander of the search unit.
Cory’s widow, Andrea, wore her husband’s Rolling Thunder vest on Sunday, Stanley said. Lt. Col. Cory belonged to the veterans organization, which raises awareness about prisoners of war and missing soldiers.
"It was a very emotional time, because Rennie was such a great person," Stanley said.
Rolling Thunder members plan to hold yearly memorials on the anniversary of Cory’s death.
